In patients with chronic pain, especially related to RSD/CRPS or neuropathic pain, Ketamine has been proven to reduce symptoms and decrease use of narcotic pain medications.
This research stems largely from studies on military veterans treated during wartime with Ketamine. They found that patients treated with Ketamine had a lower incidence of post-operative chronic pain. Subsequently, further research has shown Ketamine can be beneficial in patients suffering from chronic pain disorders.
Typically, patients complete a series of 4 hour infusions with Ketamine over several days. Patients are then able to taper down the doses of their existing pain medications. The exact regimen depends on the type of chronic pain.
